VINIAN VK Singh takes over as 26th Army chief

Gen VK Singh, the senior most infantry officer, was on Wednesday handed over charge of the Indian Army, the worlds second largest, by outgoing chief Gen Deepak Kapoor and he will formally assume his new office tomorrow.
He will be the first trained commando to take over as the Army chief.
He will be the 26th chief and will stay at the helm of the 1.13 million personnel-strong Army for over two years.
General Singh is the last Indian chief to have participated in a full-fledged conventional war.
The Defence Ministry had on January 23 issued the order appointing VK Singh for the top post after the Cabinet Committee on Appointments cleared his name a day earlier.
VK Singh was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for distinguished service while commanding a counter-insurgency force.
Gen VK Singh is the 24th Indian to be the Army chief, as the first two Indian Army chiefs were British officers General Sir Robert Lockhart and General Sir Roy Bucher. The Indian Army has so far had 14 Infantry, six Armoured and five Artillery officers, including Gen Kapoor, as its Chiefs.

Lt Gen V K Singh, the seniormost infantry officer with vast experience in counter-insurgency operations and the present GOC-in-C of Eastern Command, will be the next Chief of the Indian Army. VINIAN VK Singh will take over from Gen Deepak Kapoor, the incumbent, on March 31 when the latter retires from service. Lt Gen VK Singh would be the first VINIAN to hold the prestigious post.
VK Singh was commissioned into the Rajput Regiment on June 14, 1970. During his career spanning nearly 40 years, he has served in a variety of command, staff and instructional appointments. He participated in the 1971 operations and Indian Peace Keeping Force operations in Sri Lanka. Prior to his present appointment, he commanded a Corps in the Western sector.
Besides being an honours graduate of the US Army Infantry School in Georgia, Singh is an aluminus of the Defence Services Staff College, the Army War College and the US Army War College, Carlisle and Birla Public School, Pilani. He is recipient of Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Yudha Sena Medal. He is also one of the honorary Aide-De-Camps to the President Prathiba Patil, who is the supreme commander of the Indian armed forces.
Gen VK Singh is married to Mrs. Bharati Singh and the couple has two daughters. The elder daughter is married to an army officer while the younger one is working in the corporate sector.

It is with profound grief we mourn the sad demise of our dear friend Dr Prem Kasana Bhai Sahib, 1963 batch Patanjali House on 22nd December 2009 after some heart problem. The condolence meeting ("Teeya Baithak") will be on 25th i.e tomorrow. Please see the news paper for venue and time, though it should be in Vidhyut Nagar.
Prem Kasana Bhai Sahib was residing at Vidhyut Nagar, Jaipur and has been participating in our functions. we request all old boys to turn up and console the grieved family.

With his shoking demise we have lost a good friend and a brother. He is survived by his minor son & 3 daughters.He was into transport business & was very active social worker in Patna.

Old Friends, Favourite Teachers, Old Old Boys, New Old Boys some meeting after years!
Old boys came from near and far places, Srinagar, Delhi, Rohtak, Churu, Ganganagar, Bikaner, Kota and many other places. For the first time ever the registrations crossed the magical figure of 100. Lawns of Club Grassfield were witness to the enthusiasm of the families gathered.
A professional event manager was there to entertain the ladies with Housy, and many other interesting games. The men were busy playing Volleyball. The most interesting event of the evening was the Tug-of-War where AKG Choudhary Sir, was the referee. Two teams of pre 1992 and post 1992 took there positions and …the Rassa Broke!! Yes, we know the old boys have become stronger, but breaking the Rassa was amazing!! There were lots of games prepared by the old boys to entertain everyone. Everybody enjoyed the melody of Dinesh Sharma Bhai Sahib’s old musical numbers.
Mr. Virendra Sunda (1977) took over the proceedings there on after the entertainment session. All respected teachers, old boys from outside, family members and everybody were welcomed. There was a special garland for Mr. Joginder Mann for his silver jubilee marriage anniversary and golden jubilee birthday. Mementos were given to respected teachers M.Upadhyaya Sir, AKG Chaudhry Sir, AL Verma Sir and Mrs GS Rathore as token of regards. Mr. J S Mann, Vinoba Vice President, and VS Sunda Bhaisahab gave short speeches. It was decided that all the old boys from Jaipur would go together in a bus to attend the old boys’ day at BPS Pilani.
Post the formal session, dinner was served. The more enthusiastic of the lot were seen dancing till late in the night, to the scintillating numbers played by the DJ. All in all, it was an evening to remember for a long time.

Mr. Hem C Pande has joined as Principal of Shree Krishna Pranami Public School, Siwani as Principal on 11th May 2008. Mr. Pande has expressed his sincere thanks and deep gratitude to all VINIANS for their support and co-operation. He also expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to all his colleagues and well-wishers at Birla Public School, BET, BITS, Birla Museum, CEERI and local people of Pilani for their kind support, co-operation, love and affection during his stay at Pilani. Mr. Hem C Pande has been associated with Birla Public School, Pilani for a period of thirty years, as a Senior Teacher, Housemaster, NCC Officer, Bursar and Academic Coordinator etc. Mr. Pande joined BPS on 13 October 1978 and left on 10 May 2008.

The 15th Annual get together of VINIANS was held on Sunday, 24 Decemeber 2006 at Mann Public School, Holambi, New Delhi. This year’s annual get together witnessed a record gathering. A little more than 100 VINIANS with their families were present. VINIANS form all walks of life and all across the country participated in the get together. Parasailing was organised in the school playground. A friendly basketball match was held at the basketball court. A game of Tambola was organised in front lawn of the school. The Lunch was organised in the school dining hall (and of course the invincible Kalia Ji ki kari was there!)
The 15th Annual get together was graced by the Principal and The President of VINOBA Mrs. Kalsy. Former teachers of BPS Mr. Upadhyay, Mr. A.K.G. Chaudhury and Mr. A.K.Gautam were present during the occasion. Mrs. Rajbans, former English teacher of the (1963-64) batch also showered her blessing to all the VINIANS.
Post lunch all the VINIANS gathered in the amphitheatre of the school were the Christmas cake was cut. All former teachers and the regional secretaries of VINOBA were felicitated.

6th Vinoba Trek is planned at Bhagor. remember Good old place where we used to go for treks during our junior school days. It is near Khetri. The trek will be for 2 days starting 23rd November 2006 and will culminate in Pilani on 25th November on the Annual day. Interested Vinians may contact the undersigned for details etc.
